If you follow mega-talented DJ/producer Porter Robinson, you would know that he has long questioned his commitment to "dance music." While you can read the full account of his issues with the scene on his twitter, the sum of it is basically the age-old question that eventually challenges every talented young musician: how can one stay true to one's own artistic integrity, and yet continue to be "popular" and make "popular "music? In his own words:
i realized that the rift between the music that works for DJs and the music that i love had grown too huge to ignore.

In the end, it seems the young Carolinian decided to be true to himself and to his music. And thank GOD for that, because his new song "Sea of Voices" might be some of his best work to date. The song is flat-out gorgeous, with some of the best production I've heard in quite some time.
While the song is by no means a "dance" track, it contains all of the beauty and vastness of so many different emotions, and builds up to a euphoric, breathtaking crescendo toward the end. It saddens me that he might stop producing tracks like "Language" or "Easy" (featuring Mat Zo) for the time being, and that his upcoming debut album Worlds might not contain any dance tracks. But if songs like this are what we can expect in return… with production values of this magnitude… then I would say I'm all for it. Check out the song below.
