Ushering in the New Year is none other than a new Kanye West track appropriately titled "Only One." Featuring none other than Sir Paul McCartney, "Only One" is a ballad that features the G.O.O.D. Music front man channeling the voice of his deceased mother Donda West over a relatively simple, yet lively, chord progression played on the organ by the former Beatle. The track strikes a distinct, heart wrenching, chord as West croons soulfully, "So hear me out, hear me out, I won't go, I won't go, no good byes, just hello/ And when you cry, I will cry, and when you smile, I will smile/ And next time when I look in your eyes we'll have wings and we'll fly".
West as an individual is often viewed as not relatable by most due to his eccentricity, and at times egocentricity. But with "Only One" the listener will find a strong connection with West. We all love our mothers dearly and cherish them so much as they are always looking out for us and letting us know how special we our to them, even after their death as Kanye points out on "Only One".
That said, I highly encourage you the listener to take some time and mull over West's "Only One". Even though we all can't craft a beautiful ode to our mothers like the "Coldest Winter" artist, we can at least tell our mothers how special they are to us and how much we love and appreciate them, which will be just as suffice to them. We all have our opinions when it comes Kanye West, but I think we all can agree that he got it right on this track. Listen to "Only One" below or on Kanye West's website linked here.
