I think the ability to truly voice your pipes has been lost. Technology has swooped in and created a facade, located directly where your vocal chords should be. There's an excess amount of autotune, and talented vocalists are scarce like water in California. Luckily, the DMV is there for us.
He's been featured on Pigeons and Planes' "15 Artists You Should Know from the DMV" and is yet another potential winner from the District. His name is Brent Faiyaz, and he's only eighteen years old. His new track that I bring to you today is called "Natural Release", covered by Brent's hat trick approach: production, composition, and mixing. It's impressive enough to garner 30,000 hits on Soundcloud as a new adult, but this kid shows no sign of caging an underdeveloped arsenal.
He dubs this one neo-soul/folk, and I must say I enjoy the strict vocal emphasis. Rare it is to listen to music that doesn't blow your ears off, but when something this sweet hits my queue, it's like a breath of fresh air. Maybe that's what Faiyaz means with "Natural Release".
Check it out now, and grab the gracious free download for future fun. I heard through the grapevine that BRent's first EP is due out for late October.
